The huge success of the da Vinci surgical robot has opened the door to a new era of medical robots. The future will see an evolution of surgical robots with better augmented vision systems, more support for the surgeon and increased dexterity. Future research will also pave the way for more robotic “intelligence” in the operation room with tools and cooperating robots that will assist surgeons in the future.
Rehabilitation robotics is dedicated to improving rehabilitation with robotic devices. Patients suffering from injuries or handicaps to arms, legs or hands – for example as the results of a stroke – will have the opportunity to benefit from robotic therapy aids. Rehabilitation robotics will lead to augmented therapy options and also possibilities for in-home therapy.
